New York University (NYU) Postgraduate ASPIRE: Scholarships for Service 2025

ASPIRE—an acronym for A Scholarship for Service Partnership for Interdisciplinary Research and Education—is dedicated to educating and training the next generation of cybersecurity experts. The program is designed to cultivate cybersecurity specialists who understand information security issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. ASPIRE is synonymous with and funded by the CyberCorp Scholarship for Service (SFS), a collaboration between the National Science Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security to strengthen the United States’ information safety.

Aim and Benefits of Postgraduate ASPIRE: Scholarships for Service

  • Full tuition costs and mandatory university fees for up to 3 years (excluding meal plans, housing, parking, and other extraneous fees).
  • An annual stipend of $27,000 for undergraduate students and $37,000 for graduate students, distributed over the 9-month academic period from September to May. 
  • professional development allowance of up to $6,000 per year, covering conference fees, professional certification, etc.
  • Customized mentoring and advising from ASPIRE faculty advisors and alumni.
  • Opportunities for networking and participating in activities with interdisciplinary cohorts of ASPIRE scholars.
  • Dedicated career-planning support from the ASPIRE team.

Please note that students admitted into the NYU ASPIRE Program are not permitted to accept any other federal Title IV financial aid, including federal loans. For questions regarding financial aid, please contact NYU’s Office of Financial Aid.  


Requirements for Postgraduate ASPIRE: Scholarships for Service Qualification

To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Must be United States citizens, aged 18 years or older
  • For incoming Master’s or Law students: must be a first-year student. For PhD students: must have at least 2 years remaining in the program.
  • Must be enrolled full-time in an on-campus degree program at NYU. Incoming Master’s students must be admitted to an NYU program with the intention to enroll full-time and on-campus.
  • Graduate applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.2

Interview date, Process and Venue for Postgraduate ASPIRE: Scholarships for Service

Service Requirements

Recipients of the scholarships are required to work post-graduation for the Federal Government, or—with NSF program office approval—for a State, Local, Tribal, or Territorial Government, or a Federally Funded Research and Development Center. The employment, related to cybersecurity, must last for a period equivalent to the scholarship’s duration.

Summer Internship
Between the first and second year of the program, ASPIRE scholars are required to secure and participate in a summer internship with a US government agency, as this is a mandatory requirement.

Post-graduation Position
After graduation, ASPIRE scholars are expected to contribute to protecting the United State’s information infrastructure by working as security experts in a US government agency for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship funding.
