A generous donation by the Marquis de Amodio provides for a minimum of six Berrow Foundation Scholarships every year. The Scholarships were set up in 1985 to create further links between Switzerland and Great Britain by allowing Swiss students to pursue fully funded graduate studies at the University of Oxford as members of Lincoln College. Two or more of these Scholarships are named the Berrow Foundation Lord Florey Scholarships and are restricted to study in the medical, chemical or biochemical sciences.
The Berrow Society was founded by Berrow Foundation Scholars in 1999. Fourteen years earlier, the Marquis de Amodio had created the Berrow Foundation Scholarships to enable graduates of eligible Swiss universities to undertake a course of graduate study at the University of Oxford as members of Lincoln College.
