2026 Erasmus GEM Scholarship in Europe

The Erasmus+ Master of Science Degree (MSc) Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM) Programme is a fully funded master's scholarship for international students from around the world to study in Europe. Graduates of the Erasmus+ Master of Science Degree (MSc) Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM) Programme will be awarded a double degree (in English). The aim of GEM is to deliver top-class graduates from the EU and around the world, with the skills and networks to better manage socio-ecological systems for sustainable and equitable growth. 

GEM integrates academic excellence from four leading universities and their respective MSc programmes in geospatial science in a strategic partnership to support innovative academic practices. Each partner addresses different aspects of human-environment interaction challenges with applied geospatial science:

• Natural resources management at University of Twente, Faculty of ITC, the Netherlands (ITC)
• Ecosystems and the environment at Lund University, Sweden (LU)
• Agriculture and forestry at UCLouvain University, Belgium (UCLouvain)
• Socio-ecological systems and urban planning at the University of Tartu, Estonia (UT)

Masters Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of Masters Scholarship

The?Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship?provides comprehensive financial support for selected students. It includes: 

• Full tuition fee waiver 
• Full Insurance 
• Monthly allowance of €1,400?for up to?24 months 

This monthly allowance is intended to cover: 

• Living expenses 
• Travel and visa costs 
• Laptop 
• Other personal expenses 

Note: Only tuition and insurance are paid directly by the programme. All other costs must be managed from the monthly allowance. Careful budgeting is essential to ensure your financial needs are met throughout the programme. 

Requirements for Masters Scholarship Qualification

• Satisfy the minimum requirements for English proficiency tests. See the English proficiency requirements below on this page.
• Have a first or upper second class (2.1) BSc honours degree, or equivalent, from a recognised university. 
• Have a background/discipline related to the course, preferably combined with work experience in a relevant field.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Masters Scholarship

• Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, motivation, and geographical balance.

Documents Required for Application

1. A bachelor’s degree certificate or an equivalent qualification certificate. Applicants need to have a first or upper second class (2.1) BSc Honours degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university.
2. An official transcript of records or a preliminary transcript of records in English.
3. A certified official translation of your bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript of records if not in English.
4. An official English test score result according to the entry requirements, which can be found here. **
5. An additional Higher Degree certificate, transcript, and official translation (if applicable).
6. A valid international passport.
7. A Curriculum Vitae (CV): Please complete your CV using this template.  Include your academic background, international experience, language skills, and personal strengths relevant to the programme. Maximum length: 2 pages.
8. Financial plan: We are interested to know how you intend to finance your studies in the coming 2 academic years, since the number of Erasmus+ Scholarships is limited. To answer the questions concerning your financial situation, state the values in Euros (€), not in your own currency. You can convert your currency at this website.

Application Deadline

How to Apply

Before filling in the application form:

1. Note that if you apply to the GEM Programme before the deadline of 15 January 2026, you will automatically apply for the Erasmus+ Scholarship.
2. Each partner may have a maximum number of students that can be accepted to the GEM Programme; if the courses are full, we are not able to accept you into the course.  You are officially accepted to the course if we have received the first instalment, full payment of the tuition fee or proof that you have received funding for the course.
3. If you plan to apply for a scholarship, apply at least eight weeks before the scholarship application deadline, as a (conditional) admission letter is needed to apply for a scholarship.
4. Check if you are eligible to apply on this page.
5. Choose the study track of your choice on our Programme Structure page. We evaluate applications based on your suitability for the chosen track: Track 1: Geospatial Planner, Track 2: Geospatial Analyst, Track 3: Geospatial Developer, Track 4: Geospatial Modeller.
6. It is not permitted to apply to multiple tracks. You can only apply for 1 track.
7. It is not permitted to change tracks once you are accepted to the course.
8. To determine what tuition fee you are required to pay, you have to determine if you are from an EU Member State or 3rd country (EU). More information can be found here.
9. We need all documents before the deadline mentioned on the home page or application page.
10.  We do not charge admission fees; applying is free of charge.
11.  We evaluate applications based on your suitability for the chosen track.
12.  Do not upload articles or study guides. 
13.  In some cases, the University of Twente would like to contact your (previous) educational institution to verify your educational documents. In order to determine your curriculum/programme and verify your student’s registration, we need permission from you to do this. If you do not agree, we cannot process your application.
