• 2 scholarships of $30,000

Requirements for University of Laval PhD Scholarship Qualification

• Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students
• Having submitted a complete application for admission to a doctoral program at Université Laval for the Fall 2026 semester
• Maintain full-time student status (or "  deemed full-time  ") at Université Laval from the admission session and throughout the program of study for which the scholarship was awarded (fall and winter sessions).
• Must have Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or hold a valid study permit in the case of international students at the time the scholarship is paid.
• Present a research project related to the theme of democracy and parliamentary institutions.

Application Deadline

How to Apply

1. The application, including all documents to be downloaded, must be sent to  [email protected]  specifying the name of the scholarship.

   Application files must contain: 

2. Summary of the research project that explicitly and convincingly demonstrates the relevance of the research question (maximum 2 pages)
3. Description of the supervisory environment (study program, research supervision/co-supervision) - (maximum 1/2 page)
4. Copies of official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate studies
5. Curriculum vitae including a list of the student's achievements and distinctions (e.g., publication, communication, award or scholarship, volunteer work, social and community involvement)
6. Letter of support from a professor or person who can attest to the student's excellence
7. The thesis supervisor must also complete a student evaluation form.*

It is strongly recommended to convert documents to PDF format, group them and compress them at the time of sending.

An application submitted that is not accompanied by all the required supporting documents by the closing date of the competition will be declared ineligible by the Chair.

*Student Evaluation Form

Students wishing to apply for the Chair in Democracy and Parliamentary Institutions' entrance scholarship must submit this  evaluation form  to their thesis supervisor. Once their supervisor has completed the form, it will be automatically sent to the Chair in Democracy and Parliamentary Institutions. The student is then responsible for including the name of their thesis supervisor in their application so that the evaluation committee has access to the correct form.
