The Anglo-Danish Society was founded on the 17th December 1924 with the encouragement of Queen Alexandra of England, formerly Princess Alexandra of Denmark, the eldest daughter of Denmark’s King Christian IX, who married Queen Victoria’s son and heir, King Edward VII. Queen Alexandra was the first to sign the Society’s guestbook April 1925. She died at Sandringham in November that same year. Scholarships are intended to be only a supplement to students’ other funding and will be paid out in two instalments from the beginning of the academic year indicated or such other date as may be approved.
The value is currently £2500 per grant. All applicants are required to submit a budget for their study period and two signed letters of recommendation from persons of academic or professional standing.
Each successful applicant will be requested to accept the award confirming that you meet the prerequisite requirements, that a lack of funding will not be a hindrance for the fulfilment of your studies and that you will submit a short report to the Anglo-Danish Society at the end of the academic year for which the award was given. Also, you will be asked to grant us permission to publicise your award.

For POST-GRADUATE courses / research from Oct 2023 to July 2024
Applications are invited from:
DANISH GRADUATES
with a first degree from a Danish university/higher education institution (HEI) who are undertaking postgraduate studies/research at a university/HEI in the United Kingdom
or
BRITISH GRADUATES
with a first degree from a university/HEI in the United Kingdom who are undertaking postgraduate studies/research at a university/HEI in Denmark.
Applicants should either have embarked on postgraduate courses / research leading to a higher degree, or be assured of being able to do so in the academic year indicated above. Please observe the closing date of 1st March 2023 for the submission of applications even though the final confirmation of a place is pending or expected shortly after that date.
For the William Charnley Anglo-Danish Scholarship only, the closing date is 30 June 2023. Selection for this award will be carried out by Hughes Hall, Cambridge.
There are no restrictions as to the subject of study other than as specified for the following two special scholarships:
