ARCUS Project 2021 IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program

Applications for the ARCUS Project artist-in-residence program are now open!
We look forward to receiving applications from artists who hope to realize creative projects at ARCUS Project.
Please read the Program Outline and Application Guidelines carefully before applying.

From fiscal 2021, there is a fee for applications. The fee helps us continue our work helping different kinds of artists from around the world and providing full and stable support during their residency within the limits of our current manpower and funding. Thank you for your understanding.

About ARCUS Project

ARCUS Project aims to support promising artists who engage in creative activities across the world, and also, to promote the Ibaraki area through art. This project started in 1994 as a test artist-in-residence program that was an initiative of the Ibaraki Prefectural Government. After six years of successfully running the test project period, it then began officially. Aim and Benefits of ARCUS Project IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program

Each artist is provided with the following support during the program period

  • Studio
  • Accommodation
  • Equipments: Bicycle is provided for each artist.
  • Transportation fee Artist from overseas: Round-trip (economy class) airfare from the international airport nearest his/her home to Narita International Airport is provided. Artist based in Japan: Round-trip public transportation fee from the nearest station/airport is provided.
  • Allowance
  • Insurance
  • Support

Requirements for ARCUS Project IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program Qualification

The Applicant must:

  • be an emerging artist engaged in contemporary visual arts or other related fields.
  • be born on or after January 1, 1981.
  • have nationality of country other than Japan.
  • have legal permission to enter Japan.
  • not be enrolled in educational institution during the program period. *EXCEPTION: those who are in Ph.D. program are eligible.
  • be in a state of good health and able to carry out daily activities on his/her own.
  • have enough English skill to communicate with other artists and studio staff.
