Applications are now open for the ATU 2025 Post-entry Scholarships for Talented Student Athletes. The ATU Sports Scholarship programme provides supports to talented student athletes to recognise their need to balance both sporting and academic commitments.

Aim and Benefits of Post-entry Scholarships

Financial Benefits

Scholarship recipients will receive a cash payment or fee waiver relevant to the tier of scholarship awarded as follows:

• Gold recipients:  €3,000 per annum (athletes of exceptional standard)
• Silver recipients: €1,500 per annum
• Bronze recipients: €500 per annum

Requirements for Post-entry Scholarships Qualification

To be eligible for selection for a Sports Scholarship, the applicant must:

• Be eligible for academic progression e.g. from year 1 to year 2
• Be pursuing a full-time course at any ATU campus, including ATU St. Angela’s
• Be participating in a sport recognised by Sport Ireland.  In exceptional circumstances ATU may accept applications from athletes who are participating in sports not recognised by Sport Ireland.
• Have competed for the university within their chosen sport
• Have demonstrated high achievement in their chosen sport (level of achievement is relevant to the sport) in the last year
• Demonstrate outstanding ability in their chosen sport and demonstrate an ability to compete at Provincial, National or International level

Note: Scholarship recipients must apply annually to retain their scholarship.  A satisfactory level of academic and sporting progress is essential if the scholarship is to be renewed on an annual basis. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who do not fulfil the criteria above may be considered.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Post-entry Scholarships

Applications for the ATU Sports Scholarships will firstly be assessed against eligibility criteria.

Once this is achieved the application will be entered into an ATU Sports Scholarship Scoring Matrix. 

The Sports Scholarship Committee will recommend:

• Offer Gold, Silver or Bronze
• Reserve List
• Do not offer

Where necessary, the Sports Scholarship Committee may request an applicant to attend for interview, where further information/clarification is required.

Offer Process

• One single university offer/regret will issue where an applicant has applied for multiple locations.
• Due to scholarship demand per campus and campus’ sport priorities, applicants may be offered different tier scholarships, where applying for multiple campuses.
• Offers will specify scholarship tier and location.
• A person awarded a scholarship must accept the scholarship by the date indicated on the offer letter/email, or the scholarship offer will be withdrawn and may be directed to another applicant.

Applications for existing ATU students for the 2025/26 academic year open on 1 May 2025. The application process is simple and straightforward. Just complete and submit the online form

Confirmation of information, advice and/or opinion may be sought from governing bodies of sport and may be used as part of the assessment process.

Once your form is submitted, applicants will get an email confirmation that it has been received.  This will go to the email address that is provided on the application form, so please ensure it is correct.
