Australian Government 2023 Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program

The Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP), an initiative bridging cultures and fostering professional growth, has been providing unique AIYEP Opportunities since its inception in 1982. Undertaken by Value Learning on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australia-Indonesia Institute, this enriching program links young adults in Australia and Indonesia (ages 21-25) through an immersive cultural and professional exchange.

The AIYEP has a prestigious patron in The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d). It facilitates youth participation in an all-inclusive program funded by the Australian and Indonesian Governments. The program focuses on cross-cultural learning, online exposure, and an in-country experience.

Aim and Benefits of Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program

Participants of the AIYEP are offered a multitude of advantages. The youth exchange scholarships are comprehensive, covering all costs, and providing candidates the opportunity to immerse themselves in the norms, values, and work settings of another country. This Australia-Indonesia cultural exchange aims to strengthen participants’ interpersonal skills, providing practical work experience within local businesses, special events, and forums, such as the Australia-Indonesia Youth Forum.

The program features a strong educational component. As part of the Global Competence Certificate course, participants engage with online modules designed to help them reflect on their cultural identities, manage emotions, and forge meaningful relationships across cultural differences. This study abroad in Indonesia for Australian participants and vice versa facilitates the development of intercultural skills and international networks.


Requirements for Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program Qualification

The AIYEP caters to young professionals, teachers, university graduates, or TAFE students aged between 21-25 who have a passion for expanding their knowledge and exploring Indonesian or Australian culture, respectively. Candidates should be citizens or permanent residents of Australia, eager to contribute to strengthening Australia’s relationship with neighboring countries, and have an aptitude for learning the Indonesian language.
