The Canadian Consumer Protection Initiative was established by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs to support the consumer advocacy work of Canadian non profit organizations. The Initiative enables organizations to produce independent research on consumer issues and funds the creation of resources to help consumers make informed decisions in the marketplace. It also aims to strengthen capacity building for consumer organizations to help fulfil their mandates, increase their visibility, membership and self-sufficiency in the interest of Canadian consumers.

The Program funds projects through non-repayable contributions. The maximum total amount that can be awarded per project to a single organization is $500,000.
Contribution limits have been established so as to support a variety of projects that are geographically representative and considerate of Canada's diverse and underrepresented populations. Applicants should consider innovative approaches to their methodology, work plans and, communication efforts. During the assessment process, consideration will be given to proposals that demonstrate how they are addressing factors outlined above.
Note: There is a limit of three proposals per organization.
Eligible applicants must be incorporated (federally or provincially) as a not-for-profit organization or association in Canada and/or:
Projects can span a period of up to 24 months. The fiscal project cycle will begin April 1, 2025 and end March 31, 2027. Projects may start at any point over the 2025 – 2027 cycle but must be completed by March 31, 2027.
