The Sanctuary Scholarship is available to those who have asylum seeker or refugee status. At CCCU, support and advocacy are provided for individuals who have travelled to the UK for safety. The university aims to help those wishing to continue their education and is proud to offer the Sanctuary Scholarship to those in need.

Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) Undergraduate Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) Undergraduate Scholarship

You will receive the following:

• Tuition fee support: you will be offered a tuition fee waiver until you are awarded status that entitles you to access statutory student support. This does not cover repeat years of study.
• Study and travel support: You will receive an annual amount of £1,200, which will assist you with student and travel expenses.
• Personal support: You will receive personalised support to help you succeed and overcome barriers during your studies.

Requirements for Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

Before making an application for this scholarship, please ensure that you meet our eligibility criteria. Applicants must be:

• An asylum seeker or /dependant of an asylum seeker; OR
• An asylum seeker /dependant who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status

AND

• Have firmly accepted an offer of a full-time undergraduate place at Canterbury Christ Church University (NB Postgraduate applicants are ineligible)
• Currently attending a school, college, community or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of your application
• Unable to access statutory student support
• Not require support funding accommodation and live within commuting distance of Canterbury Christ Church University.

Applicants have to agree to keep the Immigration Compliance department of the University updated on their immigration status at all times. As soon as they receive a decision from the Home Office, they must provide the University with a copy of the documents whether it is a positive or negative decision. The University may not be able to keep a failed asylum seeker who has exhausted their appeal rights within the University.
Applicants must meet these strict eligibility criteria and be in a position to verify their circumstances in order to apply.
