CPF 2021 Wangari Maathai Forest Champions Award

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) is giving the award to one extraordinary individual for having improved our forests and the lives of people who depend on them. The winner of the 2022 award will be celebrated for his/her outstanding contributions to conserve, restore and sustainably manage forests and to raise awareness of the key role forests play in supporting local communities, rural livelihoods, women, youth and the environment, at the upcoming XV World Forestry Congress, (2-6 May 2022, Seoul, Republic of Korea).

About Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF)

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) is an informal, voluntary arrangement among 15 international organizations and secretariats with substantial programmes on forests. These agencies share their experiences and build on them to produce new benefits for their respective constituencies. They collaborate to streamline and align their work and to find ways of improving forest management and conservation and the production and trade of forest products. Aim and Benefits of Wangari Maathai Forest Champions Award

Along with international recognition and prestige, the recipient of the award will be granted a cash prize of USD20,000 and travel support to participate in the award ceremony in Seoul.


Requirements for Wangari Maathai Forest Champions Award Qualification

Applicants should be nominated by a third party. Nominees may be persons, living or recently deceased, who have made exceptional contributions to forests.

Professional and research contributions will be considered only if they are conducted outside of normal work-related responsibilities.

Applications received from a nominee’s kin or business partner are not eligible for consideration.

Applications related to grassroots initiatives are particularly encouraged.

How to Apply

Please submit your nominations to the CPF Secretariat at [email protected] following the application guidelines.

The deadline for nominations is 15 October 2021. The award recipient will be selected by a jury nominated by CPF members.
