DAAD 2021 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Sub-Saharan Africa

The purpose of the postdoctoral fellowship programme is to provide opportunities to former DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Holders from Sub-Saharan Africa to undertake research during the tenure of the award. This also includes former scholarship holders that have been funded under cooperation projects with German universities (e.g. from the DAAD Centres of African Excellence). The programme is designed to support postdoctoral training.

About German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

DAAD scholarship in Germany is a private, federally funded and state-funded, self governing national agency of the institutions of higher education in Germany, representing 365 German higher education institutions (100 universities and technical universities, 162 general universities of applied sciences, and 52 colleges of music and art) [2003]. The DAAD itself does not offer programs of study or courses, but awards competitive, merit-based grants for use toward study and/or research in Germany at any of the accredited German institutions of higher education. Aim and Benefits of Postdoctoral Fellowships

The fellowship consists of:

  • An adequate travel lump sum
  • A monthly allowance of EUR 2.000,–
  • Accident, liability and health insurance

Requirements for Postdoctoral Fellowships Qualification

  • preferably have to be former DAAD Scholarship Holders from Sub-Saharan Africa within the In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme or from cooperation projects with German universities.
  • have completed their PhD degree generally not more than six years ago.
  • must be current or prospective teaching or research staff at a university or research institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • must be invited by a Sub-Saharan African host institution (see “Place of tenure”, please note: DAAD does not find or introduce host institutions.)
  • must be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • preferably come from other countries than the country where the programme takes place
