DAAD In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Africa 2024

The programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master or doctoral studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and / or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme aims at university staff in the first line, without neglecting the public sector demand of academically trained personnel.

About German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

DAAD scholarship in Germany is a private, federally funded and state-funded, self governing national agency of the institutions of higher education in Germany, representing 365 German higher education institutions (100 universities and technical universities, 162 general universities of applied sciences, and 52 colleges of music and art) [2003]. The DAAD itself does not offer programs of study or courses, but awards competitive, merit-based grants for use toward study and/or research in Germany at any of the accredited German institutions of higher education. In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Afric Courses


Requirements for In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Afric Qualification

  • Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme, or with a Master’s degree if applying for a doctoral programme who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in their home country (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region scholarships).
  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Master and PhD studies in selected, development-related degree programmes

Interview date, Process and Venue for In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Afric

Funding is provided for the usual duration of a course – generally, up to two years for Master’s and up to three years for the PhD degree programmes.
