The humanitarian field is growing and changing quickly. The increasing numbers of people in need, humanitarian workers and budgets have resulted in massive growth of and demand on the system. These shifts mean we need new models of effective humanitarian assistance and more capable humanitarian leaders to develop and implement them.
The Humanitarian Leadership in Complex Emergencies Fellowship is a rigorous professional development programme that prepares young humanitarian practitioners to address today’s humanitarian challenges as leaders in the evolving landscape.
The drivers of displacement in Nigeria are multi-faceted and complex and often overlap. The militant Islamist group Boko Haram has triggered significant displacement in the marginalised north-east of the country since 2014. Competition between pastoralists and farmers has caused tensions in the central region, culminating in significant levels of violence and displacement. Long-standing ethnic conflict between Fulani pastoralists and Hausa farmers in north-western Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara states also triggers displacement. Flooding displaces thousands of people every year.
This programme is jointly delivered by Dataville Research and a diverse team of humanitarian action practitioners drawn from the International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection. The theoretical aspects of this fellowship are informed by key leadership behaviours, designed for practical application in a humanitarian response.
