2026 Edith Cowan University ARC DECRA - Elder Abuse and Migration

Edith Cowan University invites applications for a PhD scholarship within the School of Arts and Humanities' Research Program in Migration, Diversity and Care. This dynamic research program brings together leading inter-disciplinary researchers of migration, settlement, social justice, inclusivity, and transnationalism with a focus on applied social care to foster a world-leading and distinctive research agenda. This PhD will be conducted as a component of the Australian Research Council funded DECRA study 'Elder abuse and migration: Addressing the abuse of older adults to support safer ageing in multicultural Australia'. Your project will relate to one or more community language groups in Australia. It will deliver new knowledge about how older adult abuse is understood, and how it manifests in Australian, homeland, and transnational contexts.

Requirements for Edith Cowan University (ECU) PhD Scholarship Qualification

Applications should include two components:

1. Curriculum Vitae
Your CV should include:

• Academic qualifications and transcripts
• Research experience and outputs (if applicable)
• Relevant professional experience
• Publications or creative works (if applicable)
• Conference presentations (if applicable)
• Research partnerships or collaborations (if applicable)

2. Research Proposal (Maximum 2 pages)
Provide a focused research proposal that includes:

• Clear alignment with this ARC DECRA project
• Link to literature
• Research question(s)
• Proposed methodology
• Potential significance and impact
• Timeline for completion within the 3-year scholarship period

The successful candidate will have:

• Honours or Masters in sociology, anthropology, social work or a similar discipline
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Fluency in a language other than English, including speaking, reading and writing
• Experience working or volunteering with older adults

Terms and Conditions

• Full-time study mode (3 years)
• Meet ECU PhD admission requirements
• Cannot receive equivalent awards or scholarships from the Commonwealth
• Must have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies
