Erasmus Mundus Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures Scholarship 2026

The Master’s program “Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures” is a multiple-degree diploma offered through joint training activities by the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of TU Dortmund University (Germany), the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy) and the Department of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France). This program is designed to train the next generation of civil engineers with the expertise to design and implement innovative building technologies with a focus on sustainable materials and structures. The main objective is to educate future leaders in the development of innovative solutions for sustainability and performance in the built environment by fostering creative and independent thinking and promoting low-impact oriented problem-solving.

The program qualifies graduates for research-related and technical professional activities in the areas of

• Advanced Mechanics for Innovative Materials and Structures,
• Materials and Structures under Extreme Conditions,
• Materials and Structures in their Environment.

It also prepares students for Ph.D. studies on advanced research topics related to the mechanics of materials and structures in the field of civil engineering.

• The EMJM scholarship will award you with ~1400€ per month for 2 years and cover full tuition fees

Requirements for Erasmus Mundus Masters Scholarship Qualification

• The admission requirements are regulated in the examination regulations §3 of this degree program. Students’ admission and enrollment will comply with the following requirements: a first-cycle degree qualification according to the European Qualifications Framework or an equivalent degree qualification in the field of Civil Engineering. This equivalence requires an examination of equivalence by the program’s Admission Board.
• The qualifying degree has to be passed with an average grade higher or equal to B (or a final grading higher or equal to B) according to the ECTS grading system, i.e. the best 35% of students (corresponding to a grade of up to 2.8 (“gut”/“good”) in the German grading scale). Knowledge of the English language, native speaker, or at least level B2 is required.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Erasmus Mundus Masters Scholarship

The Selection and Examination Board reviews the applications. The Board rates every single eligible application based on the following criteria:

• Interview:  details about the interview procedure will be given when submitting the scholarship application form -> 50 points
• Academic grades: final bachelor’s degree grade or, if the applicant still needs to graduate, the average marks for examinations taken by the date of the application will be considered -> 25 points
• Two reference letters: The reference letters must be uploaded to links that referees received after submitting the application. The letter, in pdf format and English, must include letterheads of the author’s Institution and the signature (both handwritten and electronic signs are accepted) -> 15 points
• Motivation letter: CV and a two-page letter that describes why you are the perfect candidate for the EMJM scholarship -> 10 points
