Aim and Benefits of EY Young Tax Professional

Requirements for EY Young Tax Professional Qualification

  • Students under the age of 28 at the date of the international Final.
  • Honours students in: BCom Accounting, Finance, Tax, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics
    • Final year student in LLB (or LLM)
    • Final year BSc Engineering

Who should apply??

  • An applicant must be currently enrolled as a student in a South African university at the time of submission of the application form and must meet the applicable degree-specific requirement listed below.
  • An applicant should have no more than 18 months of actual work experience in tax.
  • An applicant must be 27 years old or younger as at November 2020 for entry into the competition.
  • The competition is open to university students in a tax, accounting/CTA, finance, law, economics or STEM program with an interest in tax.

Degree-specific requirements? that must be met for entry into competition:

  • If the applicant is a Tax student, he/she should be completing an Honours programme with an academic average of 65% or above.
  • If the applicant is an accounting, finance or economics student, he/she should be in his/her final/Honours year with an academic average of 65% or above and should have successfully completed at least one tax module.
  • If the applicant is an LLM student, he/she must be in a programme specializing in Tax rather than a general LLM programme.
  • If the applicant is a BSc Engineering student, he/she must be in his/her final year of undergraduate or a post-graduate programme.
  • If the applicant is a BCom/BSc IT related student, he/she must be in his/her final year of undergraduate or a post-graduate programme.

The journey to win the title of Young Tax Professional of the Year South Africa 2020 begins by you clicking here and answering the qualifying questionnaire, which consists of a multiple-choice question and an essay question. Upon submission of the essay question, applicants will be required to submit their supporting documents (CV, ID copy, and tertiary transcripts).

The question will assess applicants’ critical thinking, tax technical and business knowledge. The qualifying questionnaire will be marked by a panel of members from EY Tax, and the top performing applicants will progress to the final round of YTPY South Africa.
