Requirements for Undergraduate International Merit Scholarships Qualification
To receive an International Merit Scholarship at ETSU, students must:
- Be admitted to ETSU as a degree-seeking student.
- Have, or plan to have, a visa that allows for a full-time course of study.
- Have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher in previous coursework
- Freshman Applicants - 3.0 GPA in High School
- Transfer Applicants - 3.0 GPA in previous university coursework
Interview date, Process and Venue for Undergraduate International Merit Scholarships
The following are the terms and conditions for continued eligibiliity for International Merit Scholarships at East Tennessee State University:
- These scholarships are intended to help with the cost of out-of-state tuition. Involvement in another program that waives out-of-state tuition makes a student ineligible for merit scholarships.
- Qualified students can receive merit scholarships for a maximum of eight semesters.
- Merit scholarships cannot be applied if a student is charged the E-rate tuition.
- Students must be enrolled full-time to receive the merit scholarship(s).
- Students must notify the Office of International Enrollment and Services if they are awarded another scholarship that covers the cost of out-of-state tuition.
- Students must maintain a 2.75 grade point average (GPA) each semester to recieve the merit scholarship(s). Failure to maintain this GPA will result in a probationary semester where the student still receives the merit scholarship(s). If the student's cumulative GPA does reach 2.75 by the end of the probationary semester, the student will lose the scholarship for the remainder of their degree program.
- Graduate student must maintain a 3.0 GPA to receive the merit scholarship. Please review the terms and conditions on the graduate merit acceptance form for additional details.

Current undergraduate students who have one of the International Merit Scholarships may complete this form to reqeust an extension beyond the 8-semester limit. Graduate Merit scholarships do not have an extension form as the request for an extension must come from the program coordinator, not the student. Program Coordinator's should contact the Graduate School directly with extension requests.
