Flinders University 2025 Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant

Applications are now open for the Flinders University 2025 Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant. The University has established the Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant to provide funding towards overseas field trips for competent postgraduate research students whose theses would be greatly improved by the opportunity to undertake research and collection of data which is inaccessible in Australia.

The Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant does NOT fund field trips that are essential to the thesis. Funds to cover essential aspects of the study, including field trips, must be budgeted for as a condition of admission to candidature. The Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant funds are intended to support opportunities that arise in the course of study, and will significantly enhance the quality of the thesis.

Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant

Aim and Benefits of Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant

The value of the grant will normally be $2500 towards travel and living expenses; travel insurance can be  arranged through the University on request. 

The grant will remain accessible until the allocated funds for the current year have been exhausted. Once the budget for the period is depleted, the grant offering will cease until the commencement of the subsequent year or until additional funding is made available.

Requirements for Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant Qualification

Applicants for the Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant must be:

• Enrolled in the University for a PhD degree, normally in their second or early third year of candidature (or an equivalent period part-time) or be enrolled in the University for a Masters degree by research, normally in their first year of candidature (or an equivalent period part-time); and
• Have clearly demonstrated during this period a capacity for research; and
• Have gained unqualified support from his/her supervisor for the proposed overseas visit

Selection Criteria

The Research Students Overseas Field Trip Grant shall be awarded by the University Higher Degree by Research Scholarships Committee which shall take into consideration the merit of both the applicant and the application, and the supporting statement/s provided by the applicant and supervisor. Awards are conducted in line with the Conditions of Award.
