Gabo Foundation 2023 'Navigating' Change: Leading and Managing Digital Native Media, Colombia

The Gabo Foundation, with the support of the Google News Initiative, convenes the workshop 'Navigate' change: leadership and management of digital native media, directed by Gumersindo Lafuente. The activity will be carried out in person in Buenos Aires (Argentina), from Tuesday, September 5 to Friday, September 8, 2023, as part of the Red Anttena project, focused on strengthening the skills of people responsible for digital native media in Latin America.

" Description

Leading a native digital media means 'navigating a sea' of changes and uncertainties, which includes learning, failures and, in many cases, loneliness.

From this context, this workshop focuses on the training and accompaniment of journalistic teams responsible for native digital media in Latin America, together with whom various themes and approaches that are revolutionizing the field of journalism will be explored.

Participants will be able to strengthen their capacities to design and implement strategies to face crises in the media, change course in difficult times and move forward, identify possibilities for growth and consolidation in the market, as well as clarify challenges and opportunities for digital natives facing artificial intelligence.

Likewise, techniques related to precision journalism and information verification, data journalism, new ways of telling stories, slow and experimental journalism will be addressed. All this combined with a practical component of the workshop that will consist of visiting digital media newsrooms that have become benchmarks in their respective specialties, in order to learn first-hand how they are applying innovative approaches to tell stories and face current challenges. of digital journalism in dialogue with those responsible.

As part of the Red Anttena program, those who are selected for the workshop will also receive mentoring from people who are part of the Gabo Foundation's network of experts, who will accompany them in monitoring the implementation of development projects for their media. .

Requirements for Gabo Foundation 'Navigating' Change: Leading and Managing Digital Native Media Qualification

Persons responsible for journalistic teams of native digital informative and independent media, who are based in Latin America and develop their work on any digital platform, can apply to this call.

Applications from people linked to media outlets that have been in operation for between 1 and 10 years, and who are interested in strengthening or fine-tuning their growth and consolidation strategies at the editorial level, will be preferred.

For this workshop, 16 people who meet the aforementioned profile will be selected.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Gabo Foundation 'Navigating' Change: Leading and Managing Digital Native Media

For the selection of the participants the following criteria will be taken into account:

  1. Specific experience of the applicant in the leadership of journalistic teams.
  2. Verifiable experience of the native digital media in the exercise of informative, independent and quality journalism.
  3. Relevance and feasibility of the development project planned to be applied in the environment.

If you are interested in applying for this workshop, you must fill out the respective registration form before Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:59 pm (Colombia time).

In addition, you must attach the following:

  1. An autobiography of a maximum of 500 words, with an emphasis on your professional experience and in particular in the leadership of journalistic teams. You should also mention what motivates you to attend this workshop. Keep in mind that resumes, conventional résumés or generic texts will not be evaluated.
  2. A text of maximum 400 words, in which you make a presentation of the digital native medium to which you are linked.
  3. A text of up to 600 words in which you describe a project underway or to be developed in your native digital medium, which is oriented towards its empowerment or consolidation at an editorial level.
