The German Academic Scholarship Foundation is Germany's largest and oldest grant foundation for gifted students. It provides especially talented and dedicated undergraduate and graduate students with financial and academic support. Funding is open to students of all disciplines and from all higher education institutions in Germany. As Germany's only foundation for the promotion of gifted students, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation is politically, denominationally and ideologically independent. This is why it is so well-known for the diversity of its scholars. The Foundation offers its approximately 15,000 scholarship recipients numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary discussion, academic enrichment, and international experience.

Aim and Benefits of German Academic Scholarship Foundation
Financial support
- EUR 300 per month to cover study costs
- Up to EUR 855 per month to cover living expenses, depending on your personal situation
- Possible subsidies for health and long-term care insurance and, if applicable, family allowance and childcare allowance for students with children
- Duration corresponds to the maximum funding period stipulated by BAföG
Intellectual support
- Networking with fellow scholarship holders and academics, the opportunity to organize your own events on location
- Voluntary education program comprising academies, academic groups and doctoral forums
- Language courses, career orientation
- Individual counseling by liaison officers at the university and representatives of the Foundation
Requirements for German Academic Scholarship Foundation Qualification
- Full-time students completing their first degree or a consecutive Master’s program at an officially recognized institution of higher education in Germany
- Individuals with very good high school grades or above-average academic performance
Applicants should also display the following qualities:
- Enjoyment of intellectual challenges and the curiosity to discover new worlds, either practically or intellectually
- Genuine interest in intensive discussion with others
- The stamina to delve deeply into topics outside their area of expertise

- Nomination submitted by your school, university (e.g. by a lecturer or examination office) or partner institution
- For students in their first or second semester only: Self-nomination with selection test (the application phase begins each year in January)
- Following your nomination or self-nomination with selection test, you will be invited to a selection seminar featuring individual interviews with representatives of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation
