Every two years, the Global Investigative Journalism Network presents the Global Shining Light Award, a unique award which honors investigative journalism in a developing or transitioning country, done under threat, duress, or in the direst of conditions. For the 2025 edition, the award is open to stories published or broadcast between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024.
The Global Investigative Journalism Network was founded in 2003 when more than 300 journalists from around the world gathered for the second Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Copenhagen. Since then it has grown to 211 member organizations in 82 countries. Every two years, GIJN holds the Global Investigative Journalism Conference, which has brought together more than 8,000 journalists from 140 countries since 2001.
