KU Leuven Scholarship for Africa 2026/27

The KU Leuven Scholarship for Africa is awarded to an outstanding student from Africa who wishes to pursue a master's or advanced master's degree at KU Leuven. KU Leuven is committed to making higher education accessible to students from all backgrounds, regardless of their financial circumstances. Therefore, the University has established a fund for donations from the global KU Leuven community to award scholarships to outstanding students who wish to pursue one of our programmes.

By establishing this scholarship, the University hopes to support and inspire talented students to begin their quest to change the world as we know it today.

KU Leuven Masters Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of KU Leuven Masters Scholarship

• Full fee waiver and a one-off allowance of €4,000 for the entire duration of their programme at KU Leuven.

Requirements for KU Leuven Masters Scholarship Qualification

• Must be an African citizen.
• The student has a high level of academic performance and potential. Excellent study results are reflected in a high Grade Point Average (GPA), as indicated on the transcript of records.
• Previous degrees should have been obtained at a higher education institution outside Flanders. International students who have completed a credit mobility at a host Flemish higher education institution are still eligible for a KU Leuven Scholarship for Africa.

Regardless of the minimum score required by the programme, applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate a good knowledge and command of English. These are the accepted English language tests:

• Online TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum overall score of 94
• IELTS (International English Language Testing System): minimum overall score of 7
• Cambridge CPE (Cambridge Proficiency English): minimum level C2 

warning The language test must be taken before the application deadline of 15 January. Language test results can be added after the deadline.

Info: Students who have previously completed an English-taught programme in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America do not need to submit a certificate of English language proficiency

Application Deadline

How to Apply

• Step 1 : Submit a complete application file for an eligible master’s programme before 15 January 2026, 23.59 CET, including the KU Leuven Scholarships & Master Mind Candidacy Form as an annexe. This annexe should be uploaded in the application tool under the document type "Annexe ". Download the Candidacy Form here.
• Step 2 : Register your scholarship candidacy via the online registration tool before 15 January 2026, 23.59 CET.
• After nomination: If you have been nominated as a candidate, you will be informed by 10 March 2026. You will then be asked to submit a one-minute motivational video for the next selection phase by 18 March 2026.
• In order to be considered for the KU Leuven Scholarships for Africa, nominated applicants must participate in the Master Mind selections.
