Latvian State Scholarship 2026

The Latvian State Scholarship is awarded to citizens of 39 eligible countries who are interested in studying at Latvian higher education institutions.

Government of Latvia Postgraduate Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of Government of Latvia Postgraduate Scholarship

• €500 per month for Bachelor’s (and 2nd level professional higher education students for 2nd and 3rd study year)
•  €600 per month for Master’s students (and 2nd level professional higher education students starting from 4th study year)
• €700 per month for Phd students.

Requirements for Government of Latvia Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

• Bachelor's students who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution (HEI);
• Master’s or PhD students from any previous HEI.

Application conditions

• An applicant must choose a study programme at a Latvian HEI prior to the application for a scholarship;
• An applicant must receive the confirmation letter for the chosen study programme from the Latvian HEI prior to the application for a scholarship;
• An applicant, who is already studying at a Latvian HEI, should also receive the confirmation letter for the present or chosen study programme prior to the application for a scholarship;
• The confirmation letter for the chosen study programme from a Latvian HEI needs to be provided by the designated contact person.
• The international student can receive a Latvian state scholarship for a maximum of two terms during their studies.

Documents Required for Application

1. Copy of a letter by the higher education institution (HEI)
   • Only confirmation letter prepared by the contact person of the HEI using a unified template letter will be considered as valid.

2. Curriculum vitae (CV)
   • Use the CV Europass templat: europass.cedefop.europa.eu 
3. Letter of motivation
   • Include activities outside studies related to the study fi eld in Latvia or in the home country.
4. Proof of education
   • Diploma and supplements or transcript of records of the last 2 semesters. 
   • First year Master's students must provide their bachelor diploma copy and its supplement!
5. Letters of recommendation
   • Copies of two letters of recommendation from academic staff members, signed within the last 6 months.
6. Study plan

Application Deadline

How to Apply

1. An applicant has to register in the system and make a profile with a unique login and password,
   • ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
2. fill in an application form according to the set CRITERIA;
   • incomplete and incorrect applications are not assessed.
3. attach all the necessary application documents (translated in Latvian or English),
4. submit the application by the deadline of the call,
5. receive an official decision on the award of the scholarship by e-mail in June, and the decision is available in the candidate’s profile of the electronic application system.
