The Macquarie Master of Research provides thorough research-relevant training for candidates interested in shorter research projects or pursuing a research career.

Macquarie University Masters Scholarship
Aim and Benefits of Macquarie University Masters Scholarship
The scholarship comprises:
- a tuition fee offset for a maximum of one year
- a living allowance stipend of $39,700 for one year.
Requirements for Macquarie University Masters Scholarship Qualification
Awards will only be available to applicants who, at the time of application:
- are not an Australian/New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident
- are onshore in Australia at the time of application
- intend to reside in Sydney, Australia during their candidature
- plan to undertake a Master of Research in July 2026 (S2 2026)
- are enrolling as full-time students
- meet the English language requirements for Macquarie graduate research degrees
- meet the admission criteria for the Master of Research (refer to schedule 2.3)
- have confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher (compulsory for FMHHS and desirable for the other faculties)
- International applicants will need a valid Student Visa in order to commence their program. If they do not have a valid Student Visa, they may commence their study on an alternative Australian visa type that permits full time study until the end of 2027.
Awards will not be available to those who:
- do not have a valid visa to study. This includes applicants who are currently in receipt of Australian visas with an expiry prior to the end of 2027 that require them to move offshore to apply for a new Student Visa (eg Subclass 485, 600, 601, 995)
- are currently enrolled in a Macquarie graduate research program, including current Graduate Diploma of Research students
- are receiving another equivalent or major award, scholarship or salary to undertake the proposed course
- have already completed a research degree at the same or higher level than the proposed candidature
- wish to commence their MRes program in Session 1 2027 (deferrals will not be available)
- provide false or misleading information to the University. Where there is reason to believe this condition has not been upheld, the University reserves the right to reassess the student’s entitlement to the award
- submit incomplete applications.
Applications will be withdrawn if they are incomplete. Applications cannot be held over to a future scholarship round. If you miss the deadline you will need to re-apply for the next round.
Award-holders may:
- be in receipt of minor awards, allowances or other earnings which are supplementary to the MQRES/iMQRES, or derived from part-time work undertaken within the guidelines set by the relevant scholarship conditions
- receive stipend top-up funding from industry or other sources to a maximum equivalent of 75% of the base Macquarie University stipend rate
- be in receipt of additional funds for field work, equipment and other such expenses not covered by the award.
Interview date, Process and Venue for Macquarie University Masters Scholarship
Macquarie University:
- will rank candidates on the basis of Weighted Average Mark, or Grade Point Average if you graduated before 2020 or received your qualification/s from a university other than Macquarie. Scholarships will be awarded to the top ranked applicants
- assesses overseas qualifications using Australian Government guidelines to determine their comparability to qualifications on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
