This scholarship is aligned with the ARC Discovery project “Deciphering the effects of self-repair on human language and communication” (DP260101045). This scholarship supports research on human language and communication, focusing on the diverse ways that speakers shape language production using self-repair in conversation.
This project aims to explore the formative effects of troubles with language production by establishing how people self-repair them in conversation. By studying how people dynamically adjust language production, this project will discover more about how communication drives features of language. The successful candidate for this scholarship will use Conversation Analysis to explore dimensions of conversational self-repair in English and in at least one other language.
