Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants offer financial support for doctoral students to present their research at conferences in their discipline. The grant should be used at the recipient’s discretion to assist with conference registration costs, travel, accommodation, or any other presentation costs incurred by the student.

Aim and Benefits of Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants

The value of the grant will typically be:

• Up to $1,000 for nationally/domestically run conferences.
• Up to $2,000 for international conferences.

The value will be determined at the discretion of the panel with factors including travel and other funding sources to be taken into consideration.  

Requirements for Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants Qualification

Applicants must:

• Be a doctoral student who has successfully completed their confirmation event  
• Have had a research presentation accepted for a conference

Eligible doctoral students should provide evidence that the conference presentation has been formally accepted.  

Interview date, Process and Venue for Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants

The selection will be based on how well the paper and candidate fit the below brief:

• The conference paper should be a new and original contribution. If the conference paper is an extension of previously presented work, this should be stated clearly, and a case made (e.g. developing a presentation made at a National Society meeting for an international conference).
• The candidate’s conference contribution is that of lead presenter and the application is fully supported and justified by the primary supervisor, who will normally be named as a co-author.

A full academic CV, as provided by the applicant, listing any previous publications and conference presentations, will also be taken into consideration.

Preference will be given to doctoral students attending a conference in their second or third year of study.

Preference will be given to doctoral students who have not held the Massey University Doctoral Conference Grant before.
