MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2026

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, Asia-Pacific region and Sinology to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. Up to year 2026, there have been more than 1,500 scholars from 93 countries accepted by this program. MOFA Taiwan Fellowship, echoing the APEC Scholarship Initiative, provides 12 Chinese Taipei APEC Fellowship openings per year exclusively for scholars and experts from developing APEC economies. MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is open for application in May and June every year and recipients will conduct their research in Taiwan as early as January the next year.

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Fellowship

Aim and Benefits of MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Fellowship

    (1) Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of every month.

           a. Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000

           b. Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, doctoral program students, and other candidates recommended by ROC (Taiwan) missions: NT$50,000.

     (2) One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan (The subsidy will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant regulations).

     (3) The terms of fellowship are 3 to 12 months.

     (4) Accident insurance (plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries) coverage of NT$1 million.

Requirements for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Fellowship Qualification

• Recipients shall be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.

2.Research proposal
3.Two letters of recommendation or one letter of recommendation and one letter of agreement from the highest administrative director of your institution

Application Deadline

How to Apply

1. Online Application: Fill in the application and upload the above application documents.
2. Applicants should print their complete application form and send all application documents to an R.O.C(Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office by post.
3. The committee will select the candidates based on the comments from R.O.C (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office, and the candidates will be informed by email.
4. The candidates should contact ROC universities or research institutions and obtain the letter of consent for them to do research in Taiwan.
5. The candidates should send the letter of consent to Taiwan Fellowship team (Email [email protected]; [email protected] ) by December 31st, and check the Terms of Agreement for the Taiwan Fellowship.
6. The candidates will obtain the "Grant Authorization Letter" from Taiwan Fellowship team and officially be recognized as the recipients, which will be announced in the News on our website.
7. The recipients should apple the "FR" visa with "Grant Authorization Letter" and begin their research in Taiwan (Information for recipient).
8. The recipients begin their research in Taiwan (Information for Recipients).
