Monash University Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship 2026

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) is funded by a private trust and was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University.

This prestigious scholarship is available for research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial and helps support a graduate research student with living costs whilst studying at a Monash campus in Australia.

• a living allowance (stipend);
• a research allowance; and
• a relocation allowance, if eligible.

Requirements for James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

You must be one of the following:

• An Australian citizen
• A New Zealand citizen
• Australian permanent resident
• Australian humanitarian visa holder
• An International student

You must meet the following criteria:

• have submitted a scholarship application in the year the scholarship is offered;
• be undertaking research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial;
• meet Monash's competitive scholarship selection process requirements; and
• meet Monash English language proficiency requirements.

This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.

How to Apply

• Graduate research scholarships applications are submitted at the same time as your course application, unless you are already enrolled.
• Whether you are a new applicant or a current student, the myApp Portal is used for both course admission and scholarship applications. 
• You do not need to select specific scholarships, eligible applicants are automatically considered for all available graduate research scholarships.
