The University of New England has been selected by the Department of Education as one of the tertiary education institutions that will award a number of the NSW Education Waratah Scholarships. The Department is seeking to fund research projects that support its priorities and lead to improvements in social and education outcomes for people in NSW.
Recipients of this Scholarship will be known as Waratah Scholars. The NSW Education Waratah Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis in the form of a top-up scholarship to an RTP stipend to higher degree research students undertaking research aligned with one or more of the research priorities that align with the Department’s Strategic plan and goals.
UNE welcomes the opportunity to provide the NSW Education Waratah Scholarship support to students interested in undertaking study at Australia’s oldest regional university, located in the scenic New England region in northern NSW, with seven residential colleges at its main Armidale campus.

The NSW Education Waratah Scholarship amounts to AU$10,000 tax-free per annum over upto a three (3) year period.

| Wellbeing | Cultivating students’ and education staff’s wellbeing and happiness. Addressing the challenges of COVID-19 and remote learning. |
| Pedagogical Innovation | Evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of current and potential pedagogical approaches. Addressing the challenges of COVID-19 and remote learning. |
| Inclusiveness | Meeting the education and training needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communities and disadvantaged groups. |
| Learning Environments | Designing and implementing learning infrastructure which engages students, enhances their experience and improves outcomes. |
| Quality Teaching | Improving quality teaching by enhancing the effectiveness of teacher professional learning, particularly using digital technologies. |
| Workforce Development | Identifying current and future skills needs for NSW industries and workforce and how these needs should be addressed. |
Applicants must meet UNE’s admission requirements for a HDR degree. Applicants must submit, or have already submitted, a candidature application if they wish to apply for a scholarship.
