The Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend (International) is a prestigious scholarship, funded by the federal government to provide financial support to exceptional students.

Aim and Benefits of Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend

You'll receive:

• an annual stipend paid fortnightly, indexed annually. The annual stipend rate in 2022 is $28,854 (AUD). The scholarship can be used to support living costs.

You can also apply for:

• a $420 (masters by research), or $840 (PhD) thesis allowance after submitting your thesis.

International students will also receive:

• an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset (International).

Requirements for Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Qualification

The Australian Government requires you to:

• be an international student enrolled in an accredited research degree
• not be receiving income from another source to support your general living costs while studying, if that income is greater than 75% of your RTP stipend rate. Income not related to your course of study or income received for you course of study but not for the purposes of supporting general living costs is not to be taken into account.

If you also hold an Australian Government RTP Fees Offset (International) scholarship, you must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth that's designed to offset research degree fees.

You must also:

• meet the English language proficiency requirements
• apply via a QUT agent, if required. Check if you need to use an official QUT representative to apply (PDF file, 75.8 KB). If you do, you can find an agent in your country.
