RESURGE-COSECSA Scholarship Program for Medical Professionals in Africa

ReSurge International and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is pleased to announce the 2021 RESURGE-COSECSA Scholarship Program to support final year trainees to complete their fellowship training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The program is open to final year Plastic Surgery Trainees who are preparing to take the fellowship – FCS examination in 2021. The award should be used for Fellowship examination expenses, including the examination, examination travel, accommodation, graduation and five-year membership dues to COSECA.

In 1996, a Steering Committee of the Association of Surgeons of East Africa (ASEA), supported by visionary surgeons who would become the Foundation Fellows of COSECSA, recognised that the quality and quantity of surgical services available to people within the region was inadequate Training of specialist surgeons in the region was restricted to the M.Med surgery programmes (or equivalent) in University Teaching Hospitals with only limited numbers and a variable training programme. Requirements for RESURGE-COSECSA Scholarship Program Qualification

To be eligible for the RESURGE-COSECSA Scholarship Program:

  • Applicants must be in their final year as plastic surgery trainees who are preparing to take the fellowship – FCS examination in 2021.
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong academic and leadership abilities.
  • Applicants must be African nationals studying in an African institution of higher learning.

How to Apply

Interested applicants for the RESURGE-COSECSA Scholarship Program 2021 are to send their completed applications to COSECSA Scholarship Board using “Resurge International Scholarship Program 2021” as the subject of the email and sent to: [email protected] before the application deadline.

Applicants should include a personal statement indicating expected results or outcome, a current CV and a letter of support from the surgical training Director of the COSECSA accredited hospital in which the trainee is training.
