Three-Month Full-Time Fellowship at Nationality for All (NFA)

Nationality for All (NFA) is pleased to invite applications for the inaugural 2026 SEAP Fellowship Programme for early-career human rights professionals based in the Asia Pacific region.

The fellowship is part of NFA’s ongoing work on the Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific (SEAP) — the most comprehensive regional knowledge resources on statelessness, nationality rights, legal identity, and exclusion in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the past several years, SEAP has documented nationality laws, legal identity systems, discrimination, and populations affected by statelessness across the region. As part of strengthening and expanding this work, NFA is seeking two full-time fellows to support the updating and verification of the Second Edition of SEAP, particularly covering Southeast Asia, East Asia and Central Asia.

The Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific (SEAP) is a regional research initiative documenting statelessness, nationality laws, legal identity systems, and related human rights issues across the Asia-Pacific region. SEAP aims to strengthen knowledge production, advocacy, and collaboration on statelessness across the region.

Key Responsibilities

The SEAP Fellows will support the NFA research team in updating the Second Edition of SEAP through:

1. Factchecking and Additional Research

• Reviewing and factchecking existing SEAP country factsheets
• Conducting supplementary desk research where updates are required
• Verifying legal, policy, and statistical information

2. Website and Report Updates

• Updating SEAP content on the website
• Revising report materials and ensuring consistency across outputs

3. Citation Integration

• Adding and verifying citations across SEAP website content
• Ensuring citation accuracy and source integrity

SEAP Fellows Fellowship

Aim and Benefits of SEAP Fellows Fellowship

Each fellow will receive: AUD 200 – 400 per month depending on the location of the Fellow

This is a full-time remote fellowship. Fellows are expected to work independently from home throughout the fellowship period, with periodic in-person meetings organized when necessary.

This fellowship offers an opportunity to:

• Work closely with an international human rights organization
• Contribute directly to regional knowledge-building and advocacy
• Develop practical research, factchecking, and citation management skills
• Gain deeper understanding of:
  • Statelessness
  • Nationality rights
  • Legal identity systems
  • Human rights research methodologies

The three sub-regions will be divided among the two fellows.

The role is best suited for applicants who are:

• Self-driven and proactive
• Comfortable working independently with limited supervision
• Able to manage deadlines remotely
• Detail-oriented and organized

Requirements for SEAP Fellows Fellowship Qualification

Skills Required

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Strong desk research skills
• Good writing and analytical ability
• Attention to detail
• Ability to synthesize information clearly
• Strong organizational and time-management skills

Because the fellowship is remote and full-time, applicants should also be:

• Comfortable working independently
• Reliable in meeting deadlines
• Able to maintain consistent communication remotely

Knowledge Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Background knowledge in:
  • Human rights
  • Law
  • Public policy
  • International relations
  • Related disciplines

Knowledge of:

• Citizenship rights
• Statelessness
• Legal identity systems

is highly desirable, though not mandatory.

Preferred Experience

Experience in:

• Research projects
• Human rights initiatives
• Non-profit or civil society organizations

would be an advantage, though prior professional experience is not mandatory.

Persons with lived experience of statelessness will be prioritized.
