Shanghai Government Scholarship 2026 (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)

To support Shanghai's development into a globally influential science and technology innovation center, further promote international cooperation and exchange in education in Shanghai, and attract outstanding students and scholars from all countries to study and conduct research in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government established the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students (hereinafter referred to as the "Scholarship") in 2006 to fund outstanding international students to study in Shanghai.

Shanghai Government Postgraduate Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of Shanghai Government Postgraduate Scholarship

The Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students is divided into two categories: A and B.

• Category A Scholarships (Full Scholarships): Cover tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and comprehensive medical insurance for the corresponding study period. Applicable to undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and undergraduate preparatory studies.
• Category B Scholarships (Partial Scholarships): These cover tuition and comprehensive medical insurance for the corresponding study period and are applicable to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies.

Requirements for Shanghai Government Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

1. Applicants must be foreign nationals and in good health.
2. Applicant's educational background and age requirements:
   • Applicants for undergraduate programs must have graduated from high school and be no older than 25; applicants for master's programs must have obtained a bachelor's degree and be no older than 35; applicants for doctoral programs must have obtained a master's degree, possess a certain level of academic achievement, and be no older than 40.
   • Applicants for undergraduate preparatory courses should have a high school diploma or above, have obtained a pre-admission notice from an undergraduate institution, and be no more than 23 years old.
3. Excellent academic performance.
4. Meet the corresponding language proficiency requirements:
   • Applicants should generally have a HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) score of at least Level 4 (a HSK certificate is required). They should also meet the language requirements for instruction stipulated by the applying institution and program.
5. Meet the requirements stipulated by the applying university and major.
6. Not simultaneously receiving any other scholarships from the Chinese government.

Visit the "Study in Shanghai" website (https://www.study-shanghai.cn/) to search for and apply directly to your desired school and major. Application periods are generally from February to April each year, subject to the information published on each university's admissions website.
