We are pleased to announce 2025 Sir William Gallagher Cyber Security Scholarship for postgraduate (taught), postgraduate (research) students at University of Waikato in New Zealand.

The Scholarship will have a value of up to $20,000 with the value awarded dependent on the paper enrolment
The Scholarship will be paid as outlined follows:
Throughout the course of the Scholarship tenure, the recipient may have the opportunity to gain work experience with Gallagher Group. Any work experience will be paid employment outside the scope of this Scholarship. The days and hours of any such employment will be discussed and mutually agreed to by the student and Gallagher Group and will not be at the expense of the student’s research and/or study.
To be eligible, candidates must:
Be commencing enrolment during A Trimester (in the year following application) in one of the following as part of the Master of Cyber Security (MCS) at the University of Waikato: a) COMPX592 – Dissertation (60-points); or b) COMPX593 – Computer Science thesis (90-points). Note that enrolment in COMPX593 will be at the discretion of the Head of School and may be taken in place of COMPX592 and the two elective papers in Part 1 of the Master of Cyber Security degree.
Have completed the majority of taught papers for Part 1 of the Master of Cyber Security by the end of the year of application.
Have achieved at least a ‘B+’ grade-point-average (GPA) for their most recent 120- points of study (the 120-points of study must have been undertaken at a New Zealand university);
Candidates will be ranked by GPA, with emphasis placed on those with papers most relevant to the area of specialisation proposed for the MCS degree.
Grades for industry placement papers will not be considered.
Have strong interest in the field of cyber security, show innovative thinking and/or entrepreneurship ability (particularly through previous initiatives and project work), and have career aspirations in the field of cyber security; and
Be a New Zealand Citizen, New Zealand Permanent Resident, New Zealand Resident class visa holder, Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident domiciled in New Zealand or an international student.
To maintain their eligibility, the successful recipient must:
Enrol in COMPX592 or COMPX593 as part of the Master of Cyber Security commencing during A Trimester in the year following application; and
Discuss their MCS research topic with their University of Waikato supervisor and the Gallagher Group to ensure that it is industry-based and of relevance to Gallagher Group. Gallagher Group will confirm this has been achieved through [email protected] and/or the Development Office. Meet any reporting milestones of the research project established at the start of the project.
The Selection Panel will comprise the Division of Health, Engineering, Computing and Science representative to the Scholarships Committee (in Chair), an academic staff member in the field of Cyber Security (nominated by the Chair of the Scholarships Committee) and up to two representatives from Gallagher Group.
The Selection Panel may refrain from making any recommendations if it finds no candidate of sufficient merit.
The Selection Panel’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting.
