Aim and Benefits of Sophia University Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship

For International Students and Japanese Students

• Sophia University New Student Scholarship
  It covers one-third, one-half, or full tuition for the first year of study.

For International Students

• Sophia University Benefactors’ (Adachi) Scholarship
  It covers full tuition and the education enhancement fee for the first year of study.

Requirements for Sophia University Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

• Students applying for 2027 Sophia University Undergraduate/Graduate School entrance examination and meet the above requirements.
• Students who will possess a “Student” visa at the time of admission.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Sophia University Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship

• Selection will be conducted based on the application documents, financial situation and grades.
• The scholarship notification will be sent to the applicants via email on the day when the admission result comes out.
• Recipients will be able to check the School Fee they have to pay from the online admission page, “My Page”.
• The scholarship amount will be deducted from the original School Fee. Please pay the School Fee by the designated period.

  Scholarship Application Form for International Students
  Scholarship Application Form for Japanese Students
• Certificate of Income (copy)

Applicants whose parents, spouse or financial supporters live in Japan must submit documents additionally

• Residence Certificate (original)
• FY2026 Taxation Certificate or Tax Exemption Certificate (2025 Jan. - Dec.) (original)
• 2025 Withholding Tax Certificate (copy)
• 2025 Income Tax Return (copy)
• Documents regarding Pension (copy)
• Certificate of Enrollment (original)

Application Deadline

How to Apply

• In principle, applicants must send the documents to the Center for Student Affairs using traceable services such as “registered mail” (kan-i-kakitome) or “Letter Pack Plus” for domestic mail or Express Mail Service (EMS) for international mail.
• Please do NOT enclose any admission documents. Make sure to send them separately.
• On the envelope, please write in red as below:
  Application for New Student Scholarship (Receipt No.) to (Course) in (Program)
  e.g., Application for New Student Scholarship (12345) to (M.A.) in (Global Studies)
• For application documents sent from within Japan, postmarks dated by the deadline will be accepted.
• For application documents sent from outside of Japan, they must arrive by the deadline date.
• If there are unavoidable reasons such as suspension of the postal service in your country, you may send your application documents via e-mail. In such case, please state in the body of the e-mail the reason why you cannot send it by postal mail and the subject of the e-mail must be as below:

  e.g., Application for New Student Scholarship (12345) to (M.A.) in (Global Studies)
• Applications are ONLY accepted during the application period(JST) with no exception. If your application does not reach the Center for Student Affairs due to network connection errors, etc., Sophia University will not be able to consider the situation.
