Southern Cross University Emeritus Professor Stephen Myers Scholarship 2026

The Emeritus Professor Stephen Myers Scholarship honours the legacy of a pioneering leader in integrative health and naturopathic medicine. Professor Myers played a foundational role in establishing naturopathic education at Southern Cross University, serving as Head of the Naturopathic Program from 1995 to 2001 and later revitalising the discipline through the creation of the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine.

The intention of this scholarship is to bridge traditional knowledge systems, naturopathy, and contemporary medical, and biomedical research. It aims to strengthen connections between complementary and conventional healthcare while supporting high?quality research across the continuum from foundational discovery to applied and integrative models of care.

Aim and Benefits of Southern Cross University PhD Scholarship

• The successful candidate will receive a tax-free PhD stipend at the current RTP rate of AU$34,315 per annum (2026 rate indexed annually) for 3 years and 3 months, including an additional $5,000 a year stipend top-up.
• Allocation of $5,000 research funds per year. For international candidates, a return airfare will be included in the offer.

Requirements for Southern Cross University PhD Scholarship Qualification

This scholarship is offered to outstanding candidates. Applicants should bring:

• Qualifications in naturopathy or related disciplines that allow enrolment into a PhD program with SCU (First-class honours or Master’s degree with a relevant research component).
• Track record and experience relevant to naturopathic, complementary or integrative medicine.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Good teamwork abilities.

The successful candidate will need to meet the entry requirements to enrol in a PhD at Southern Cross University on a full-time basis, which may include visa requirements for international students.

Applicants whose first language is not English are also required to meet English Language Proficiency requirements (an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) Academic (or equivalent) equal to or above 7.0, with a minimum 7.0 in writing and no other band less than 6.5.

• Personal Statement and Vision – explaining how your project aligns with the aims of the scholarship, and the Centre’s research priority areas, how the work contributes to a broader vision for the field and its future impact, and how it might form a foundation for work beyond the PhD
