Southern Cross University Screening Digital Active Learning PhD Scholarship 2026

This project offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing field at the intersection of learning sciences, digital education, physical activity, and teacher practice.

The PhD candidate will investigate how digital environments can be designed, evaluated, and optimised to support physically active learning, with a particular emphasis on screen?based learning behaviours and child engagement, digital pedagogies that promote learning, physical activity. It will also look at ways to promote interaction, collaboration, and inquiry among children, analytics and screening tools that may help educators identify learning needs, equity, access, and inclusion in digital learning environments.

This project will be conducted in collaboration with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child.

Aim and Benefits of Southern Cross University Screening Digital Active Learning PhD Scholarship PhD Scholarship

• The successful candidate will receive a PhD stipend for three years and three months at the RTP rate of AU$34,315 per annum (2026 rate indexed annually). The scholarship is tax-free and paid in fortnightly instalments.

Requirements for Southern Cross University Screening Digital Active Learning PhD Scholarship PhD Scholarship Qualification

Applicants need to possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree with first-class Honours (or Second Class – First Division) in Psychology, Education or related field;
• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a relevant research component in Educational Psychology, Education, or related field;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Applicants whose first language is not English are also required to meet English Language Proficiency requirements (an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) Academic (or equivalent) equal to or above 7.0, with a minimum 7.0 in writing and no other band less than 6.5. 
• Interest or experience in digital learning, active learning, or classroom analytics
• Strong research skills or clear potential for independent inquiry
• Motivation to contribute to impactful, practice?relevant educational research

The successful candidate will have previous experience on topics related to physical activity and learning/ cognition in natural/ digital environments or integrating technology into educational settings, and/or a potential publication record in high-impact-factor journals.

• The Selection Panel will convene after 30 June 2026 (Closing Date) to review applications. Applications will remain open until the position is filled.
• Successful candidate is expected to start in November/December 2026.
• The successful candidate will be based on the Gold Coast campus.
