Swansea University 2022 Heilbronn Doctoral Partnership International PhD Scholarships in UK

We invite applications for PhD study in Mathematics at Swansea University. The studies will be funded by the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research from their UKRI/EPSRC award “Heilbronn Doctoral Partnership (HDP) 2022”.

In addition to undertaking cutting-edge research, students on this programme may expect to participate in summer workshops in years 1-3. It is anticipated these will be about 4 weeks in length and residential in nature (with extra costs covered as appropriate).

A research project can be in one of the fields below:

  • Algebra, Geometry and Topology
  • Mathematical and computational methods in machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Partial Differential Equations
  • Stochastic Analysis and (Noncommutative) Probability

Detailed information about research directions in the Department of Mathematics can be found at the Research and Impact webpage of the Department. Applicants should demonstrate interest in one or more of the above research fields.

Aim and Benefits of Swansea University PhD Scholarship

This scholarship programme covers the full cost of tuition fees and an annual stipend at the UKRI rate (currently £15,609 for 2021/22) for four years. Additional research expenses will also be available.


Requirements for Swansea University PhD Scholarship Qualification

  • To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Candidates must have a first or upper second class honours, or a master’s degree with Merit, in a relevant discipline.

To apply, please complete your application online with the following information:

  1. Course choice – please select Mathematics / Ph.D. / Full-time / 3 Year / October

*It is the responsibility of the applicant to list the above information accurately when applying, please note that applications received without the above information listed will not be considered for the scholarship award.

One application is required per individual Swansea University led research scholarship award; applications cannot be considered listing multiple Swansea University led research scholarship awards.

As part of your online application, you MUST upload the following documents (please do not send these via email):

  • CV
  • Degree certificates and transcripts (if you are currently studying for a degree, screenshots of your grades to date are sufficient)
  • A cover letter including a ‘Supplementary Personal Statement’ to explain why the position particularly matches your skills and experience and how you choose to develop the project.
  • Two references (academic or previous employer) on headed paper or using the Swansea University reference form. Please note that we are not able to accept references received citing private email accounts, e.g. Hotmail. Referees should cite their employment email address for verification of reference.
  • Evidence of meeting English Language requirement (if applicable).
  • Copy of UK resident visa (if applicable)
