Aim and Benefits of Swansea University Research Excellence Scholarships (SURES)

This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees and an annual stipend at UKRI rate (currently £20,780 for 2025/26). 

Additional research expenses of up to £1,000 per year will also be available. 

Requirements for Swansea University Research Excellence Scholarships (SURES) Qualification

Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is open to applicants eligible to pay tuition fees at the UK rate only, as defined by?UKCISA regulations 

Applicants require a 1st at UG degree (Bachelor Equivalence)  

ii) OR ii) 2.1 UG degree (Bachelor Equivalence) & Masters (Distinction)  

Candidates must have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 1st class UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification), or a 2:1 UK undergraduate degree and a Distinction in a UK master’s degree (or international equivalent) 

• Where applicants have multiple master’s degrees, a distinction must be held in the degree that is most relevant to the intended PhD study.
• If you are currently studying for a master’s level qualification with an expected award date that is later than 01/10/2025, you should hold a minimum of an upper-second-class (2:1) honours degree.  
• You should be able to demonstrate a pass with a minimum grade average of at least 70% for your part-one master’s degree modules (the taught aspect of your master’s course rather than a research-focused dissertation) and submit your dissertation by no later than 30/09/2025.

1. In section ‘Programme Related Information’ please input the relevant RS Code for the scholarship award i.e. RS823 – SURES OMIC 
2. In section ‘Research’ you will see ‘Proposed project title/studentship title’* (Mandatory) 
   • In ‘Proposed project title/studentship title’ please input either:  
     • the relevant scholarship advert link,  
     • the RS Code, or  
     • the scholarship title.   
   • Please leave Proposed Supervisor field blank 
   • Please leave Research Project (if applicable) blank 
   • In ‘Do you have a proposal to upload?*’(Mandatory) Please select Yes 
   • Then upload copy of advert (you can save the advert by clicking print, and then print to pdf) 
3. In section ‘Funding information’ please choose the option ‘Scholarship Funding’ only. Please ensure no other options are selected.
