In order to support junior researchers, the Technische Universität Ilmenau will be awarding the above-mentioned research grants from 1st October, 2025 in accordance with the “Statute for the Allocation of Grants at Technische Universität Ilmenau”
Applications for the winter semester 2025/26 can be submitted for the following types of funding:
- Research Resumption Grants (for female scientists who interrupted their scientific career for family reasons and wish to return to current research after parental leave) The aim of the Resumption Grant is to provide financial support for researchers returning to scientific occupation (according to § 3, (5) of the Statute) after interruption of such an occupation for family reasons, such as pregnancy, parental leave or to care for a close relative. In such cases, the Grant is awarded for a maximum period of twelve months. Applications for the re-entry scholarship are open to those who can prove that they have taken at least a three-month interruption in their professional activities due to maternity and/or parental leave.
- Doctoral Grant (for researchers at the end of a doctorate degree) The aim of the Doctoral Grant is to provide financial support for researchers to allow them to successfully complete a scientific undertaking (according to § 3, (6) of the Statute). In such cases, the Grant is awarded for a maximum period of six months.

Aim and Benefits of TU Ilmenau Scholarship
The value of a Grant is €1400 per month. An additional €180 is available for the first dependent child and €90 for each further dependent child. Up to 5 Grants can be awarded.
Requirements for TU Ilmenau Scholarship Qualification
- Female scientists who have interrupted their qualification project for family reasons and want to reconnect with the current research after parental leave (re-entry scholarship)
- Scientists and academics at the the end of their doctorate (doctoral scholarship)
Documents Required for Application
- Motivation letter with details of funding type being applied for, proposed start date and funding duration (max. one A4 page);
- Tabular CV with details of educational and professional development;
- Copy of diploma/Master degree certificate or an up-to-date overview of previous academic achievements with a letter from a university teacher giving the expected date and grade of final degree examination;
- Letter from Department Council confirming acceptance of applicant as a doctoral candidate;
- Completed bank details and income statement form, including data protection declaration.
