Howard Hughes creates vibrant, award-winning communities where people can live their best lives. To support generations to come, The Howard Hughes Scholarship Program will award three renewable $5,000 scholarships to high school seniors residing in or around one of their communities.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Requirements for The Howard Hughes Community Scholarship Program Qualification
Applicants to the Howard Hughes Community Scholarship Program must:
- Be high school seniors, high school graduates or current college undergraduates residing in one of the following five (5) regional areas:
- Maryland – Howard County
- Texas – Harris or Montgomery Counties
- Nevada – Clark County
- Arizona – Maricopa County
- Hawai’i – Honolulu County
- Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
- Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
- Be pursuing a major in one of the following fields:
- Real Estate/Construction, Sustainability, Accounting, Marketing/Digital, Finance/Economics, Technology, Engineering (Civil/Mechanical), Human Resources, Communication, English/Literature
Interview date, Process and Venue for The Howard Hughes Community Scholarship Program
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
