The University of Sydney has introduced a scholarship for a PhD student to conduct research in the field of chemical engineering, computational fluid dynamics and heterogeneous chemical kinetics.

About the Research: Ph.D students are undertaking research in using advanced engineering reactors to become the next generation of processing technology that specifically targets the conversion of mixed and contaminated (non-recyclable), post-consumer waste plastic into feedstock materials for the virgin plastics manufacturing industry.

Aim and Benefits of PhD Scholarship

Successful applicants of the Chemical Recycling of Mixed Waste Plastics Research Scholarship, 2021 will recieve a stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney’s Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to 3 years.

Note: Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Requirements for PhD Scholarship Qualification

• Open to all international students.
• Applicant must have an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled to study full-time in a PhD within the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
• Applicants must be willing to conduct research into the field of chemical engineering, computational fluid dynamics and heterogeneous chemical kinetics at high temperatures to scale-up, optimise and model of chemical recycling of mixed waste plastics.
• Applicants must hold at least one of the following degrees in Engineering or Science disciplines: an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or equivalent, or Master’s degree.
• Applicants must demonstrate previous research experience through thesis, publications or prior research projects.
