Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is pleased to partner with Vertex Pharmaceuticals to offer a unique opportunity for top HBCU talent to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry during the summer of 2024. This is a PAID, internship program.
The department of Pathobiology includes members with broad and diverse scientific expertise in anatomic and clinical pathology, histology, and image analysis providing support to discovery and developmental efforts on Vertex portfolio. The incumbent Co-op/Intern will work under the guidance of Pathologists and collaborate closely with other PSA and/or relevant project team members to perform hands on laboratory work and develop automated image analysis methods to characterize human and/or murine model specimens of renal (ADPKD) diseases. The position will provide an opportunity to build experience in discovery pathology and advanced training in state-of-the-art histology and image analysis approaches and/or data interpretations.
The successful candidate will
• Perform hands on laboratory work to characterize human and/or murine model specimens of renal (ADPKD) diseases.
• Perform digital pathology and quantitative image analyses using a variety of image analysis software’s like HALO, MATLAB to support discovery pathology programs.
• Design, test, and validate image analysis algorithms to identify morphological features and cellular characteristics within the regions of interest.
• Organize and compile results in support of data interpretation and sharing with team members in a timely manner.
• Support experimental work through active collaboration with Histology laboratory personnel and cross- functional scientists through timely, effective oral and written communication.

Vertex Pathobiology Intern is a PAID, internship program.
• Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Biological or Computer Sciences, or a relevant discipline.
• Familiarity with image analysis and software programming is a plus.
• Self-motivation, ability to multi-task, prioritize and provide timely, high-quality results on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
