Undergraduate students: 60,000 yen per month (720,000 yen per year)
However, if you are also receiving other large, non-repayable scholarships (from private organizations, local governments, etc.), the amount may be halved. (Total amount from other institutions is generally 2,000,000 yen or more)
- You may apply even if you are currently receiving or are scheduled to receive a scholarship from another institution, but please refrain from applying if you are currently applying for or receiving a scholarship from an institution that does not allow concurrent receipt of scholarships.
- Even if there is no repayment obligation, grants and tuition fee waivers provided by the Japan Student Services Organization will not be reduced by half, even if received in conjunction with other benefits.
- For those who have been selected for public support programs for doctoral students (such as JSPS Research Fellowships, JST Next Generation Researcher Challenge Program, and Emergent Research Support Program),
the grant amount will be halved (420,000 yen per year).
- Conditions for receiving benefits
Scholarships from this foundation do not require repayment.
Recipients are free to choose their own employment and all other matters after graduation.
- Period of benefits
The grant period is two years, from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2028 (regardless of whether you advance to the next grade or continue your studies).
After the grant period ends, your performance over the two years will be reviewed, and an extension of the grant period may be granted.
*The total grant period, including extensions, will be a maximum of four years. However, for those who have achieved outstanding results, the grant may be extended beyond the fifth year, until completion of the doctoral program, after deliberation.
- For the second year of the grant, we will review the recipient's progress, such as advancement to the next grade or enrollment in higher education, before conducting a review.
- Those who wish to receive benefits for only one year, such as in their final year of employment, are also eligible to apply.
- The grant period is two years, but depending on the performance of obligations, academic results, research progress, etc. in the first year, the grant may be suspended or terminated in the second year.
- Method of payment
As a general rule, scholarship payments will be made directly to the recipient in July, covering four months from April 2026, and then two months' worth of payments on a specific day in even-numbered months until February 2028.
