TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovation 2026

At TU/e, we’re looking for highly talented international students to help share the future of microchip technology. That’s why we offer Scholarships for Excellence—a unique opportunity for top students applying to Master’s programs in a selected number of Departments: Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics & Computer Science.

These scholarships are funded by the national “Beethoven program”, a major strategic investment from the Dutch government to accelerate innovation and growth in the microchip sector. It’s a prestigious initiative, and being part of it means joining a select group of students who are helping drive the Netherlands’ high-tech ambitions forward.

TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovatio

Aim and Benefits of TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovatio

The scholarships amount to 7.500 euro per academic year. Since most if not all TU/e master’s programs are two years, scholarships are also awarded for two consecutive years.

Requirements for TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovatio Qualification

To be eligible for a TU/e Scholarship for Excellence, you must meet the following criteria:

• You have applied for admission to a full-time Master’s program at TU/e for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting on 1 September 2026.
• The Master’s program is offered by one of these four Departments:
  • Applied Physics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mathematics & Computer Science
• You meet the specific admission requirements of the Master’s program to which you have applied, and you have applied before the scholarship deadline.
• You must have completed either your secondary school or bachelor’s degree, or both, outside the Netherlands.
• You have never completed a higher education program (university or university of applied sciences) in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programs in the Netherlands are welcome to apply.
• You are not eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.
• You do not have another scholarship or grant.
• You have obtained excellent results during your prior education program, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript showing a GPA of 7,5 out of 10 or higher.
• You meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
• You are not participating in a European Double degree program.
• You are not applying for a joint Master’s program with Tilburg University (JADS).

Please note that the TU/e Scholarship for Excellence is a very competitive scholarship: only 2% of the applicants will be awarded the scholarship.

Interview date, Process and Venue for TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovatio

After the 1 February deadline, the scholarship selection procedure will start:

• Step 1: The TU/e International Office checks all applications based on the requirements listed above.
• Step 2: The TU/e International Office sends all eligible applications to the Scholarship Selection Committee. The Committee consists of the Rector Magnificus, the Dean of Education, the Director Finance & Control, and the Director Education & Student Affairs.
• Step 3: For each Department, the Scholarship Selection Committee makes a list of nominees, based on GPA.
• Step 4: Each Department checks and approves their list of nominees. The number of scholarships available for each Department depends on the number of masters students in the Department, on 1 November of the previous year.
• Step 5: The TU/e International Office confirms the selections by the end of March and will inform all candidates about the results. If you are selected for a scholarship, you will be asked to sign a scholarship agreement.

Due to the large number of applications we receive, we’re unfortunately not able to provide individual feedback on selection decisions. Please note that:

• It’s not possible to appeal the outcome of the selection procedure.
• Scholarships cannot be deferred to a later academic year.
• The scholarship is non-transferable to other Master’s programs
• The level of the award is final and non-negotiable.

Again, please note that the TU/e Scholarship for Excellence is a very competitive scholarship: only 2% of the applicants will be awarded the scholarship.
