The purpose of this scholarship is to support students towards study for an Honours or Master's degree in Economics or Political Science at the University of Canterbury. The scholarship was established in 1994 by a gift from Alan Gibbs.

University of Canterbury Masters Scholarship
Aim and Benefits of University of Canterbury Masters Scholarship
- The successful applicants of the University of Canterbury - F A Hayek Scholarships in Economics or Political Science in New Zealand, 2019 will receive an award of $16,500.
Requirements for University of Canterbury Masters Scholarship Qualification
- The scholarship shall be awarded from time to time to a student in Economics or Political Science.
- The tenure shall be one year for a Master's student and up to three years for a student enrolled in a Master's or Honours degree.
- The scholarship shall be awarded by the University Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising:
- the Vice-Chancellor, or nominee;
- the Dean of the Faculty of Science
- the Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Must be enrolled in a programme for a Master's or Honours degree in Economics or Political Science at the University of Canterbury, with a course weighting in the range of 0.75-1.50 EFTS. Such a programme must include a research component of at least 30 points
