University of Essex Ronald J. Hill Fund 2026

The department of Government is offering a bursary of £3,000 to assist one postgraduate student within the department of Government to assist with tuition fees or living costs. The department has been extremely fortunate to offer this award due to the kind donation from one of the department's early graduates, and its first Master's student to earn his PhD at Essex.

Requirements for University of Essex Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

• Applicants must have received a conditional, or unconditional offer, to study a full-time Postgraduate course, within the Department of Government, at the University of Essex starting in academic year 2026-27.
• Applicants need to have accepted their offer by the 30th June 2026 to be considered for this award.
• Applicants must have achieved a 2:1, or higher, in their undergraduate degree.
• Applicants must be able to demonstrate a financial need.
• Other University of Essex awards can be held in conjunction with this bursary in line with any other received award’s terms and conditions, where applicable.
• Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities

Students who are not eligible

The following students are NOT eligible for this scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria:

• This scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry. Where a scholarship has been awarded to a student who subsequently defers entry to the following academic year, the award will be withdrawn and the applicant will be considered again in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry.
• The bursary cannot be continued for students repeating periods of study in any circumstances.

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Essex Postgraduate Scholarship

Selection will be based on your eligibility and the information and supporting statements that you provide as part of the application process. An initial review will take place to ensure applications meet the criteria listed.

All applications that meet the criteria will be passed to a panel within the department of Government. As part of your application, you will be required to submit the following:

• A 300-word statement about why the bursary would be beneficial to you
• One-page curriculum vitae
• UG transcript and/or degree certificate
