University of Exeter 2023 'Green Futures’ Postgraduate Taught Scholarships : Jusoor-Exeter Scholarships, UK

In our Green Futures Scholarships series, we are delighted to be partnering with Jusoor, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that works to offer international scholarships, refugee education and entrepreneurial programmes for Syrian children and young adults.

With their generous support, for September 2023 entry we are offering two fully funded Jusoor-Exeter Scholarships for Masters level study in the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy - open to Syrian and Palestinian-Syrian applicants who reside in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt or Iraq.

These awards are available for the following one-year, full-time, campus-based Postgraduate taught degrees:

Aim and Benefits of University of Exeter 'Green Futures’ Postgraduate Taught Scholarships : Jusoor-Exeter Scholarships

Full tuition fee waiver and stipend for living costs for 1 year


Requirements for University of Exeter 'Green Futures’ Postgraduate Taught Scholarships : Jusoor-Exeter Scholarships Qualification

To apply and be considered for one of these awards, candidates must:

  • be Syrian (including Palestinian with Syrian Travel Document), have lived continuously in Syria prior to the current crisis, and be currently living in Syria or one of its neighbouring countries (Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, Egypt)
  • apply to study an eligible Masters degree at the University of Exeter, via the University’s online application process 
  • demonstrate academic merit by being offered admission for September 2023 by the University, and fulfilling any admission conditions set by the University
  • not already have a Masters degree
  • require financial support in order to take up the offer of admission
  • show intent to contribute to the redevelopment of Syria
  • have a strong record of leadership and community engagement, as demonstrated through volunteer and/or work experience
  • be willing to remain engaged with Jusoor’s community.

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Exeter 'Green Futures’ Postgraduate Taught Scholarships : Jusoor-Exeter Scholarships

An interview stage may be included in the selection process, including panel members from the University and Jusoor. Candidates will be advised in advance if this is the case. Candidates will be notified of the final outcome of their scholarship application by?16 June 2023.

These awards are for one year only and cannot be held with any other University of Exeter scholarship, deferred or transferred from the specified programme. To receive the scholarship following enrolment, the successful candidates will be required to sign the Jusoor Scholar contract. The main points of the contract are outlined below, and selected scholars can request to read the contract in full before accepting the award. The awardee agrees:

  • To give Jusoor permission to use their name, photographs and biographies on Jusoor’s website, social media and in publications. 
  • To make efforts to attend online and in-person events when requested by Jusoor.
  • To submit a form provided by Jusoor each term to provide academic updates.
  • To agree that to the best of their ability, they will use the knowledge and skills gained through this scholarship to support the development of Syria.
  • To maintain good academic standing.
  • Not to serve as an official representative of any government and not to engage in activities of public nature that are likely to affect Jusoor negatively, while receiving funding from Jusoor.

Step 1 – Apply online for your chosen Masters programme from the list above for September 2023 entry. Please apply as soon as possible and no later than 31 March 2023. 

Step 2 – If you are made an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) then please apply for the scholarship using the form here?by the deadline of 28 April 2023.

A personal statement (500 word maximum) is required as part of the form, responding to the following questions:

  1. How have you helped others in the last two years??Your answer may include service to your family, friends, school, or community, as well as to an NGO or a charity (please provide dates, locations, and hours contributed per week as relevant).
  2. How do you plan to contribute to the redevelopment of Syria??Your answer may include the relevance of your chosen programme of study and any planned efforts you intend to carry out through your work or volunteering.?
  3. What would it mean to you to receive a Jusoor-Exeter scholarship??Your answer may include both personal and wider benefits.
  4. How would you make the most of your experience as a Jusoor-Exeter scholar and serve as?an ambassador for this scholarship initiative??Your answer may include your part in the campus community at the University of Exeter and more broadly around the world for Syrian students desiring to further their education.?
