The University of Otago Coursework Master's Scholarship provides funding to support coursework-based Master's students studying at the University of Otago other than those enrolled in the Master of Business Administration.
The University of Otago, founded in 1869 by an ordinance of the Otago Provincial Council, is New Zealand’s oldest university. The new University was given 100,000 acres of pastoral land as an endowment and authorised to grant degrees in Arts, Medicine, Law and Music. The scholarship consists of $10,000, to be paid towards a rebate of tuition fees in the first instance, with any remainder to be paid as a monthly stipend evenly distributed across the course of the scholarship.
If the recipient withdraws from coursework Master’s study at the University of Otago during tenure of the scholarship, all payments will cease and no money will be refunded to the student.

* Coursework Master’s Scholarships are not available for the papers year of a two-year research Master’s degree.
Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the advice, recommendation and ranking of the relevant Head of Department or nominee.
Application is initiated by Departmental nomination.
Applications are currently open for 2023.
Every applicant must submit an application on the prescribed form.
For applicants yet to enrol in their chosen degree, this must accompany their application for admission to the degree.
For applicants choosing a research report or dissertation option after initial study, application should be made directly to the University of Otago Doctoral and Scholarships Office, after result from initial Master’s papers are received, and no later than one month after starting the dissertation or research report component of their degree.
